In an ORC survey we found that Millennials are most eager for transparency when managing their healthcare. They ranked lack of price transparency on equal footing with affordability as the most pressing issues they face. Millennials were also significantly more likely to face issues managing their healthcare as compared to those 55 and older.
As patients continue to assume more out of pocket costs, they’re playing a more direct role as educated healthcare consumers. For Millennials, technology has always provided instant communication and knowledge dissemination, so they have less patience with a healthcare system that doesn’t provide price transparency. They’re more likely to reduce the frequency of their healthcare services as a result of the challenges they face in managing their healthcare. It may just be that Millennials will be the generation to drive our transformation to transparency.
